Acceptable & Unacceptable Materials
Acceptable
The following details what can be included in the competition.
Cafeteria materials as accepted by your service provider, such as:
- Aluminum beverage containers
- Cartons (milk and juice)
- Glass bottles and jars
- Plastic bottles and tubs
- Steel food cans
Paper materials as accepted by your service provider, such as:
- Books (incidental amounts)
- Chipboard (cereal boxes)
- Cardboard
- Magazines
- Newspaper
- Office Paper
- Phone books (incidental amounts)
Food scraps are NOT accepted in the Competition Category but if it is composted it can be tracked and reported in the Bragging Rights category. More information is found here.
Unacceptable
At this time, the following materials cannot be counted toward your competition totals.
- Appliances
- Computers
- Construction and demolition material
- Electronics (toner cartridges, cell phones, batteries, etc.)
- Furniture
- Industrial plastics
- Other miscellaneous recyclable items - (For example, Terracycle material cannot be counted towards your weights)
- Pallets
- Scrap metal
- Wood
- Yard trimmings
